NOVUS Offensive S
A 5-ply all-wood attacking blade balancing softness and strength.
Performance
XIOM NOVUS official, 1-5About this product
The same limba all-wood as Extreme S, but five plies at 6.1mm — two plies and a millimetre removed — for the same ₩70,000.
Fewer plies mean more flex. More flex keeps the ball on the face longer, and that is where spin comes from. Both are classed attacking, but where Extreme S wins by pushing the ball away, this one wins by brushing it.
It is also 4g lighter at 86g. Four grams sounds like nothing on a bare blade; after two sheets of rubber it shows up in swing speed.
Since the price is identical, the choice is about method rather than budget. If you do not yet know how you return the ball, thinner and fewer plies is generally the better place to learn.
What the numbers say
5-ply all-wood (Limba) 6.1mm. Its control of 7.0 ranks 2 of 8 blades, on the high side. Its reaction, by contrast, is 6.0 — on the low side. Based on the manufacturer’s published figures.
