NOVUS Stradivarius
A blade using high-elasticity, low-vibration aramid carbon. Known for a soft feel and excellent control.
Performance
XIOM NOVUS official, 1-5About this product
Alone in the NOVUS line it uses koto five-ply with aramid carbon, putting it in a different family from the three hinoki blades.
Aramid is the less lively, more gripping end of the carbon spectrum. That is why this is classed all-round rather than attacking, and the thin 5.7mm build pushes it further the same way.
At ₩95,000 it is inexpensive for a blade with carbon in it. If you want to try carbon without the experience of the ball flying off uncontrollably, this is a reasonable place to start.
Conversely, if you are coming specifically for carbon speed, it will feel flat. Pace is not what this blade is for.
What the numbers say
Outer 5-ply Koto + 2 Aramid-Carbon plies 5.7mm. Its sharpness of 10.0 ranks 1 of 8 blades, among the very highest. Its control, by contrast, is 5.0 — on the low side. Based on the manufacturer’s published figures.
